Silo D Ampitheatre
An earthwork amphitheatre with a capacity of 4000 is built around this abandoned grain silo in London’s docklands reinventing the building as a huge outdoor stage.
Utilising waste soil from site construction works and topped up with 500 truck loads of inert fill from London’s Cross Rail excavations, this project was actually a net income generator for the site.
The earth work also functions as a lookout point, picnic spot, sound barrier and artwork in its own right. An underground champagne and oyster bar is buried in its western slope.
